Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Vaccination Plans and Locations for Phase 1b; ACC Tracker with State Vaccine Updates & COVID-19 Orders; Update on COVID-19 Cases

Vaccination Plans and Locations for Phase 1b:  As the state began its Phase 1b vaccination plan this week, Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced the state has created a vaccination location portal on its Phase1b website.  This portal will provide eligible residents with nearby vaccination sites, information on how to make an appointment to receive the vaccine, updates on the state’s plan and eligibility, and answers to frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.

The state’s Phase 1b website also provides information on the Illinois National Guard mass vaccination site, which opened Monday at the Tinley Park Convention Center, and will be updated as more state-run sites and hundreds of additional local options come online. As federal vaccine supply is currently limited and every state in the nation is facing a shortage, the governor urged all eligible residents to check back regularly for available appointments.

In addition, Walgreens is providing vaccines at 92 sites across the state where eligible residents can schedule an appointment. Jewel-Osco will also begin vaccinating eligible residents in a similar manner.  Over the next few days, additional pharmacy partners will be coming online and opening registration for appointments.

Again, at this time, these sites will be available by appointment only. As the federal supply of vaccines increases and Illinois receives more vaccine, the state will launch walk-in locations and expand sites to additional providers such as doctor’s offices and urgent care clinics. More information about those locations will be released in the coming weeks.

A total of 1,253,300 doses of vaccine have been delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 537,050 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. This brings the total Illinois doses to 1,790,350. IDPH is currently reporting a total of 773,623 vaccines administered, including 117,983 for long-term care facilities. Yesterday, a total of 53,628 doses were administered. The 7-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 33,698 doses.

Tracker with State Vaccine Updates & COVID-19 Orders:  The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has again updated its comprehensive COVID-19 Tracker (attached to this Update) with separate charts illustrating state vaccine plans, including documents detailing updated state specific orders and mitigation measures as well as executive orders and legislation relating to business liability.

Update on COVID-19 Cases: IDPH is reporting 1,112,181 positive tests of COVID-19 in Illinois, an average increase of 4,308 new positive tests per day since reported here 6 days ago on January 21.  In total, 15,633,443 tests have now been conducted in Illinois for the virus, an average increase of 91,626 tests per day since January 21.

The state’s average positivity rate over all 11 regions is at 4.5% for the last 7 days.  You can see where the various regions are at in terms of their positivity rates, hospitalizations, and other metrics at this link

Unfortunately, IDPH is reporting a total of 18,964 deaths, an average increase of 74 per day since January 21.

You can also check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak.

Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities.  The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state.

For information on other states and countries, John Hopkins University has developed this website that provides invaluable resources at a one-stop location detailing testing and tracing trends, timelines of COVID-19 policies, and interactive maps.
