Q: What is the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois (CICI)?
A: The Chemical Industry Council of Illinois (CICI), organized in 1951 as the Drug and Chemical Industries Activities Committee (D.A.C.I.A.C.), is one of the nation's first state chemical trade associations representing the industry's common interests. The primary objective then was to support educational excellence in science. As D.A.C.I.A.C. grew to become CICI, it expanded its efforts into Legislative, Regulatory and other advocacy arenas.

Q: What’s the purpose of CICI?
A: The Chemical Industry Council of Illinois (CICI) is an association whose goals are to ensure the viability and promote the interests of the chemical industry by:

  • Gaining public acceptance, trust, support and understanding through the communication of the objectives and beneficial contributions of the chemical industry.
  • Ensuring that public policies and programs are mutually beneficial to the citizens of Illinois and the chemical industry through the provision of leadership, information and service.
  • Inspiring and encouraging students’ and educators’ interest in chemistry and sciences.
  • Sharing information, educating and being a clearinghouse for the best practices of the industry.

Q: What are the benefits of CICI membership?
A: The benefits of CICI membership are many. As the state's only organization devoted to solely representing Illinois chemical industry, the CICI works hard to protect and promote the interests of Illinois’ third largest manufacturing sector. Other benefits of membership include:

  • Communication (Legisletter, Register Review, Update, etc.)
  • Representation/Advocacy
  • Resolving CICI Member Issues (Case Work)
  • Networking/Peer Group Development
  • Continuing Education Units/Development Hours

  • Quality of Staff – (Over 50 years of experience representing Illinois’ chemical industry)

Q: What types of issues does CICI get involved?
A: While the primary focus of CICI is EH&S issues, we also get involved in any issues which impact our industry. Some examples include:

Legislative Issues

  • Halt new taxes and fees on industry – (12% tax – Oil Products Tax)

Q: What is the cost to join the CICI?
A: Regular member dues are on a graduated scale depending on your company’s presence in Illinois. For Affiliate and Associate members, the annual dues are a $1,300 per year.

Q: Who may join the CICI?
A: The CICI is the only association which focuses solely on the interests of Illinois’ chemical industry. However, membership is not limited to companies in the chemical industry. Any business or group that has a keen interest in, or provides a service to the industry, may apply for CICI membership and are eligible for all CICI member services.
