Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Indiana Added to Chicago’s Travel Order; Updated Specific State Information on COVID-19 Orders; Update on COVID-19 Cases

Indiana Added to Chicago’s Travel Order: This week, Chicago Indiana Added to Chicago’s Travel Order Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Chicago Department of Public Health added Indiana to its Emergency Travel Order, which directs travelers entering or returning to Chicago from certain states to quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state. This includes both Chicago residents returning from travel to a designated state, and travelers arriving in Chicago from a designated state.
Travelers from the following states and territories should quarantine upon arrival in Chicago: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The list will be updated every Tuesday, if any changes, and go into effect the following Friday at 12:01 a.m.
For Wisconsin and Indiana, the Order applies to individuals coming from Wisconsin or Indiana to Chicago for non-work purposes and Chicago residents returning from Wisconsin or Indiana, unless they are deemed an essential worker. Exceptions to the order for personal travel will be permitted for travel for medical care and parental shared custody. Individuals who travel to Wisconsin or Indiana, even if for less than 24 hours, still need to quarantine upon returning unless deemed an essential worker or are a student who commutes for school. Chicago residents are strongly advised to not travel to these states.
Updated Specific State Information on COVID-19 Orders: The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has again updated their comprehensive chart detailing state specific orders, re-opening plans, and other restrictions as well as executive orders and legislation relating to business liability. This chart is attached to this Update. This chart will be updated now only once a week on Friday afternoon.
Update on COVID-19 Cases: IDPH is reporting 336,174 positive tests of COVID-19 in Illinois, an average increase of 3,236 new positive tests per day since reported here 7 days ago on October 9. In total, 6,618,768 tests have now been conducted in Illinois for the virus, an average increase of 63,055 tests per day since October 9. The state’s average positivity rate over all 11 regions for the last 7 days is at 5.1% - a noticeable increase from last week’s rate of 3.8%. Unfortunately, IDPH is reporting a total of 8,945 deaths, an average increase of 31 per day since October 2.

Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities. The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state.
