COVID Cases Increase Substantially - Governor Pritzker Hints at Return to Some Phase 3 Measures if Situation Doesn’t improve: Governor Pritzker this week hinted that some regions of the state, all of which are now under additional mitigations measures, could see a return to some Phase 3 measures if the resurgence of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations don’t improve. Over the last week, the state has now an average positivity rate of 9.6% (15.1% average just in the last 2 days), over 10,000 COVID-related deaths, over 4,000 people in the hospital, close to 800 patients in the ICU, and over 300 patients on ventilators. This is the highest hospitalization rate since the end of May and the highest number of people in the ICU since the beginning of June.
Some of the Phase 3 measures being considered are:
- Suspending elective surgeries and procedures; implementing surge capacity; assessing the need to open Alternate Care Facilities
- Instituting remote work for all non-essential workers
- Suspending organized indoor and outdoor recreational activities
- Suspending all non-essential retail; only essential retail open (i.e. grocery stores, pharmacies)
- Suspending salon and personal care operations
Updated Specific State Information on COVID-19 Orders: The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has again updated their comprehensive chart detailing state specific orders, re-opening plans, and other restrictions as well as executive orders and legislation relating to business liability. This chart is attached to this Update.
Update on COVID-19 Cases: IDPH is reporting 465,540 positive tests of COVID-19 in Illinois, an average increase of 13,992 new positive tests per day since reported here 2 days ago on November 4. In total, 8,215,129 tests have now been conducted in Illinois for the virus, an average increase of 92,208 tests per day since November 4. The state’s average positivity rate over all 11 regions is at 9.6% for the last week, but at 15.1% over the last 2 days. You can see where the various regions are at in terms of their positivity rates, hospitalizations and other metrics at this link.
Unfortunately, IDPH is reporting a total of 10,079 deaths, an average increase of 73 per day since November 4.
You can also check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak.
Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities. The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state.
For information on other states and countries, John Hopkins University has developed this website that provides invaluable resources at a one-stop location detailing testing and tracing trends, timelines of COVID-19 policies, and interactive maps.
