Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Driver Services Facilities Closed to the Public Until After New Year; Calculator Available for Determining COVID-19 Vaccine Wait; Updated Specific State Information on COVID-19 Orders; Update on COVID-19 Cases

Driver Services Facilities Closed to the Public Until After New Year: The Illinois Secretary of State’s office announced today that, due to the recent surge in COVID-19, Driver Services facilities statewide will remain closed for in-person transactions until Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.  Driver’s licenses and ID card expiration dates have now been extended until June 1, 2021. CDL holders and commercial permit holders are excluded from this extension due to federal requirements.

Many transactions with the Secretary of State’s office may be conducted online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com, some of which include:

• Renewing a license plate sticker;
• Renewing a valid driver’s license for qualifying drivers;
• Renewing a valid ID card for those age 22-64 (65+ have free, non-expiring IDs);
• Obtaining a driver record abstract;
• Filing Business Services documents, such as incorporations and annual reports; and
• Customers with issues involving administrative hearings may contact [email protected]

Calculator Available for Determining COVID-19 Vaccine Wait: As discussed in the Update previously, and illustrated in the American Chemistry Council’s COVID-19 Tracker, public health officials across the country are considering vaccine timelines which give some folks priority over others, such as healthcare and essential workers. The New York Times have developed this calculator, along with the Surgo Foundation and Ariadne Labs, using their vaccine tool, to determine the number of people who will need a vaccine in each state and county and where certain individuals might fit in that line.

Updated Specific State Information on COVID-19 Orders:  Attached to this Update is the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) comprehensive COVID-19 Tracker chart detailing some these state specific orders and mitigation measures as well as executive orders and legislation relating to business liability.  The most recent version of the COVID-19 Tracker also now includes a “State Vaccine Plans” tab (at the bottom) where you can find the vaccination plans every state submitted to the CDC.

Update on COVID-19 Cases: IDPH is reporting 770,088 positive tests of COVID-19 in Illinois, an average increase of 10,742 new positive tests per day since reported here 2 days ago on December 2.  In total, 10,918,998 tests have now been conducted in Illinois for the virus, an average increase of 109,706 tests per day since December 2.

The state’s average positivity rate over all 11 regions is at 10.3% for the last 7 days, but 9.7% in the last 2 days.  You can see where the various regions are at in terms of their positivity rates, hospitalizations and other metrics at this link

Unfortunately, IDPH is reporting a total of 12,974 deaths, an average increase of 167 per day since December 2.

You can also check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak.

Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities.  The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state.

For information on other states and countries, John Hopkins University has developed this website that provides invaluable resources at a one-stop location detailing testing and tracing trends, timelines of COVID-19 policies, and interactive maps.
