Update on COVID-19 cases: The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) is now reporting a total of 1,290 deaths, an increase of 156 deaths since Friday. There are currently 30,357 positive cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, which is an increase of 2,782 from Friday.
In total, 143,318 people have now been tested in Illinois for the virus, which is an increase of 13,155 from Friday. Unfortunately, these testing numbers are still lower than the 10,000 tests per day experts believe will provide a more precise mathematical model to evaluate how well current control efforts are working and when the state’s number of cases may peak. Of those people tested, 21.1% of the results are positive for COVID-19, which is roughly the same percentage the state has been seeing all weekend.
You can check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak. Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities. The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state. In addition, Western Illinois University has an put together this Map of COVID-19 Cases in Illinois & Surrounding States which gives you picture of where COVID-19 cases are occurring in relation to areas surrounding Illinois.
Worldometer also has a site with pertinent statistics on a state by state breakdown and comparison. Also, the City of Chicago has a good categorization of the cases within the city.
White House Information on Federal Help to Illinois: Over the weekend, the Trump Administration put together the attached document to this Update illustrating the various federal assistance which has been provided to Illinois in terms of testing, PPE and other vital equipment and supplies in addition to financial assistance to the state and its businesses.
Phases of Re-Opening Economy: Also attached to this Update is a graphic from the state of Ohio explaining, at least for their particular state, the three phases of re-opening the economy. Ohio plans to commence this plan May 1. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Illinois will be able to follow suit in the same time frame as many believe that Pritzker’s “Stay at Home” Executive Oder will once again be extended beyond the end of April.
More Local Governments in Illinois Requiring Face Masks: Recently Northbrook, Morton Grove,Highland Park and Wilmette have joined Cicero, Skokie, and Glenview in initiating orders that residents wear face masks at job sites and when in public settings like grocery stores, etc. If you know of other units of local governments doing the same, please let CICI know so we can share with the CICI membership.
