Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Local Governments Responsible for Enforcing “Stay at Home” Order; Update on COVID-19 Cases
|
Local Governments Responsible for Enforcing “Stay at Home” Order, Liabilities for Noncompliance: At Governor Pritzker’s daily press conference, he remarked that local governments, not the state, will be responsible for enforcing the provisions of the latest “Stay at Home” order. Recently there have been several news stories which indicated that a few counties and municipalities in the state have refused to enforce the order, allowing previously closed businesses and activities to re-open. In light of this situation, it was also brought up at this news conference that the state’s trial bar has warned businesses and local governments that defying the “Stay at Home” order could increase liabilities and lead to lawsuits. Even further, the state’s insurance industry has also warned that current policies likely will not cover these types of liabilities for businesses and local governments intentionally defying the order.
Update on COVID-19 Cases: The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) is now reporting a total of 2,662 deaths, an increase of 44 deaths from yesterday, which is the lowest number of daily deaths since April 19. There are currently 63,840 positive cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, an increase of 2,341 since yesterday. In total, 333,147 people have now been tested in Illinois for the virus, which is an increase of 13,834. The percentage of positive cases increased to 16.9% which, unfortunately, is an almost 1% increase since Friday.
You can check where these cases are occurring at the State of Illinois COVID-19 website which also contains more information on this outbreak. Also, IDPH has a case breakdown of the number of positive cases in Chicago and each county relative to the number of fatalities. The IDPH website also now includes a breakdown of the cases under each zip code in the state. In addition, Western Illinois University has an put together this Map of COVID-19 Cases in Illinois & Surrounding States which gives you picture of where COVID-19 cases are occurring in relation to areas surrounding Illinois.
Worldometer also has a site with pertinent statistics on a state by state breakdown and comparison. Also, the City of Chicago has a good categorization of the cases within the city.
